Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanten has announced his resignation from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Alan’s choice had been expected by the broader public prior to his declaration.

On Monday, September 25, 2023, he announced his resignation and decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 election at a press conference held at the Movenpick Ambassadors hotel in Accra.

Ghana, he believes, requires a new leader rather than a new political party, which explains his decision to run as an independent candidate under the slogan “Movement For Change,” with the Monarch butterfly as his logo.

He claimed that during the recent superdelegates congress, the party did not treat him fairly. Speaking at a news conference in Accra, the former flagbearer candidate announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections.

Kyeremanten underlined his commitment to tackling the country’s pressing concerns, including as economic development, job creation, and social welfare. He indicated that his choice to run as an independent candidate was motivated by his conviction that doing so would allow him to better serve the interests of Ghanaians.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”

His candidacy as an independent poses a one-of-a-kind challenge to Ghana’s established political order, with the ability to change the political landscape.
