English Actor And Musician Idris Elba Shares Untold Gold Stories

The World Gold Council today announced the release of GOLD: A Journey with Idris Elba, a new documentary produced in collaboration with Pioneer Productions.

Idris Elba (Luther, Beast of Nations, Hijack) immerses himself in adventure as he investigates the mysteries, legends, and untold human relationship with our most precious metal: gold. We follow him throughout the world as he overcomes his claustrophobia in Canadian mine shafts, discovers his ancestry in Ghana, and embarks on the adventure to responsible mining in South Africa.

Elba discovers the unique events and anniversaries that bring the human tale and socio-economic effect of gold to life, from the 1800s Gold Rush spurring early demand for Levi’s jeans to the recent manufacture of a $1M gold bar in Canada and the quest for the new gold seams in Peru.

Gold: A Journey investigates the worth of gold in the past, present, and future, as well as its transformative abilities on individuals, communities, and economies. It also discusses how the industry is addressing contemporary issues, such as post-mine regeneration and energy use, as well as the future of the gold mining workforce.

The documentary was created to help the World Gold Council achieve its goal of helping the world comprehend the value of gold and harness its revolutionary power.
