Voter ID Cards Replacement Begins Ahead Of The 2024 Election

Voter ID Cards Replacement Begins Ahead Of The 2024 Election.
In preparation for the 2024 general elections, Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has begun the process of replacing Voter ID cards for persons who have lost or damaged their cards.
The Commission confirmed in an official statement that the replacement exercise will begin today, Tuesday, 3 October 2023, and will go until Monday, 9 October 2023.
The EC has created an online payment facility to ease the issuance of new Voter ID cards in order to speed the replacement process. This gateway will allow applicants to make the necessary payments. Following a successful transaction, applicants will receive an SMS confirmation, which should be shown at the moment of payment.

This replacement activity will be implemented following the completion of the 21-day limited voter registration exercise, which ended on Monday, October 2, 2023. Rather than extending the registration time, the EC has stated that it will only register eligible Ghanaians who were present in the queue on or before 5:00 p.m. on the final day of the operation, Monday, October 2, 2023. This additional registration will occur on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
The Electoral Commission’s action aims to ensure that all qualified voters have the opportunity to vote in the future general elections in 2024, while also addressing the needs of those who require replacement Voter ID cards due to loss or damage.
The EC is actively working to ensure a seamless and inclusive voting process for all citizens as election preparations continue.
