Dangote Regains Title As Richest Man In Africa From Rupert On Forbes Africa.
According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires ranking, Aliko Dangote has reclaimed his title as Africa’s richest man.
Business Insider previously published a list of the top ten richest people in Africa in early 2024, stating that South African business magnate Johann Rupert had overcome Nigerian Aliko Dangote to become Africa’s wealthiest person.
According to the Forbes Daily Billionaires ranking tool, which monitors daily changes in the net worth of the world’s wealthiest individuals, Aliko Dangote’s net worth has climbed from $9.5 billion on January 3 to $10.4 billion at the time of this article.
He beat Johann Rupert and his family, whose net wealth fell from $10.3 billion to $10.0 billion during the period under consideration.

Dangote, the CEO of Dangote Group, is now placed 190th on Forbes’ list, while Rupert is ranked 198th globally. Dangote is also Africa’s richest individual, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Last year, Aliko Dangote ranked ninth on the list of the world’s richest manufacturing billionaires, making him the sole African on a list dominated by Asian and European billionaires.
Dangote’s financial empire is based on Dangote Industries, a multinational headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. According to Bloomberg, the 66-year-old billionaire made the most of his money from his 86% ownership in publicly traded Dangote Cement.
His influence extends to sectors such as sugar, salt, fertilizer, packaged foods, and the recently commissioned $20 billion petroleum refinery, now Africa’s largest.
Last year, Dangote announced intentions to publicly list his Dangote Petroleum Refinery on the Nigerian Exchange Limited.
